Andy Knapp joined the Wisconsin cross country and track and field coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2018-19 season. He joins the coaching staff with an wide array of experience, ranging from high school to all three NCAA Divisions as either an assistant or head coach. Knapp will work primarily with the UW men’s cross country squad and the men’s distance runners during the track and field season.

He started his coaching career at the University of Tennessee, where he was a volunteer assistant cross country coach in 2013. He also spent three seasons at Shelby High School in Ohio as an assistant boys cross country and track and field coach, where he helped produce ten All-Ohio Athletic Conference Performances in track and field and five first-team All-Ohio Honors in cross country and track and field.

In addition, he spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant cross country and track and field coach at Marietta College, and also served as the interim head cross country and track and field coach. He returned to his alma mater, the University of Akron, where he served as the Director of Track and Field Operation for the 2015-16 season and managed all logistical needs of the track and field and cross country programs.

Most recently, Knapp worked at the University of West Alabama as an assistant cross country and track and field coach for the 2016-17 season, where he worked with both the men’s and the women’s teams.

A native of Shelby, Ohio, Knapp was a member of the cross country and track and field teams at the University of Akron, where he was a four-year letter-winner in cross country and was a part of five Mid-American Conference team championships. After earning his bachelor’s degree in education with a concentration in sport management, he spent time at the University of Tennessee where he earned his Master of Science in kinesiology and participated in the sport psychology and motor behavior graduate program.
