Hansen Named U.S. Men's Swimming Head Coach

Wisconsin men's and women's swimming head coach Eric Hansen has been selected to lead the U.S. men's swimming team at the 2002 Short Course World Championships in Moscow, April 3-7, 2002.
'I'm excited about the opportunity to lead the U.S. men's team,' Hansen said. 'It's been a goal of mine since I came to Madison for Wisconsin to have a presence and an impact internationally ' whether it be through UW's student-athletes or coaches.'
Highlighting the 13-member men's team are seven Olympic medallists from Sydney including Chris Thompson, Eric Vendt, Tom Wilkens, Chad Carvin, Klete Keller, Jason Lezak and Aaron Peirsol. Rounding out the men's roster are David Denniston, Eric Donnelly, Andy Haidinyak, Peter Marshall, Sean Quinn and Scott Tucker.
'It's a very talented group and I look forward to the opportunity to represent our country at this level again,' Hansen said.
Hansen represented the United States on the international level as an athlete from 1987-92. The 1990 U.S. national champion in the 100 backstroke, Hansen was a captain of the U.S. team for the 1991 World University Games.
'As an athlete, my greatest honor was to wear the U.S. colors,' Hansen said. 'I can think of no greater honor to be named the coach of the United States.'
