Women's Soccer Buries Billikens

The Wisconsin women's soccer team came back from two deficits and senior Natalie Roedler (Mendota Heights, Minn.) scored twice to lead the Badgers to a 4-3 victory Sunday over Saint Louis in UW's final game of the 2001 season.
'It was an unbelievable game,' coach Dean Duerst said. 'Just like all our other ones.'
Wisconsin (5-11-3 overall, 1-7-2 Big Ten) faced its first deficit in the first half. SLU's Jenny Kehl put the Billikens up 1-0 at 13:03.
But the Badgers took care of business quickly, tying the game at 1-1 less than four minutes later. Frosh Molly Meuer (Madison, Wis.) tallied her first collegiate goal to knot the game at one. Less than two minutes after Meuer's goal, Roedler hit a free kick to notch her third score of the year to give Bucky the lead.
Saint Louis rallied to tie the game before the half and just after the break took its second lead of the game. However, Wisconsin refused to let the story of the season return.
Roedler scored again for the Badgers, evening the game at 2-2 with 33 minutes remaining. To pick up the victory, junior Lauren Schmidt (Milwaukee, Wis.), who had been denied by the cross bar several times this year, ignored her feet and went with her head.
'She got way up in the air and headed it home up into the far upper corner,' Duerst said.
Schmidt clinched the game for Wisconsin on her header from a corner kick at 81:45.
'What a way to close out the year on a high note,' Duerst said. 'With a victory.'
