Badgers defeat UW-Stevens Point

The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team opened its 2002-03 season with a commanding victory over UW-Stevens Point, 186-57, Saturday at the UW Natatorium. The Badgers dominated today's meet, taking the top spot in all thirteen events.
Leading the way for the Badgers with two first-place finishes apiece were seniors Sarah McCauley (Tualatin, Ore.) and junior Bethany Pendleton (Hood River, Ore.). McCauley took wins in the 200 IM (2:07.79) and in the 100 free (51.47), while Pendleton won the 1000 free (10.12.91) and 500 free (5:03.48).
Freshman Sarah Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) and Lindsay Leech (Naperville, Ill.) also stepped up for Bucky by claiming first-place wins in the 100 fly (58.90) and in the 100 back (58.88), respectively.
Rookie diver, Megan Balkenbush (Fort Collins, Colo.) won first-place on both the one-meter (260.10) and three-meter (254.85) boards.
The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team will take a week off before competing again. In their next home meet, their second of only three home events this year, the Badgers will face Toledo on Oct. 24th at the UW-Natatorium at 5 p.m.
