October 24, 2002 | Men's Swimming & Diving
The Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team defeated Toledo, 131.5-99.5, Thursday night at the UW Natatorium. Wisconsin picked up 10 wins in 13 events, and swam the top time in the 400 free relay, but exhibitioned the event.
Freshman James Wike picked up two victories on the night, winning the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.49) and the 400 IM (3:58.95).
After Wike, seven different Badgers picked up individual wins. Individual victors Dale Rogers, Matt Zuiderhof, Pat Torpey and Matt Marshall contributed to the top relay finishes. Zuiderhof, winner of the 500 free, swam in both relays.
In diving, freshman Matt Smith competed against Toledo's Billy Harrison and finished second on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
The Badgers keep right on swimming this weekend with action tomorrow and Saturday in Iowa City. Wisconsin opens Big Ten action against the Hawkeyes Friday night at 6 p.m. and continue the dual meet Saturday at 11 p.m.
