October 28, 2002 | Women's Soccer
The Big Ten Conference named sophomore forward Amy Vermeulen its women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week Monday. Vermeulen tallied seven points on two goals and three assists in two Badger wins over the weekend.
Vermeulen netted the game-winning goal and assisted on a score in Friday's 4-1 win over Minnesota. The win gave the Badgers (9-7-3 overall) a 4-4-2 record in the Big Ten and a higher seed in the upcoming Big Ten tournament. Against UW-Green Bay Sunday, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native scored the first goal of the game and registered two assists.
Vermeulen ranks second on the team with six assists and 14 points. Her six assists rank sixth in the Big Ten. She shares second place on the team with four goals. This summer, Vermeulen competed with the Canadian U19 team that won silver at the inaugural FIFA U19 Women's World Championships.
The Badgers conclude the regular season this Friday at the McClimon Soccer Complex. UW kicks off versus Illinois State at 7:30 p.m.
