Wike Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

The Big Ten Conference named freshman backstroker James Wike its Men's Swimmer of the Week Tuesday. Wike was honored for his performance against Toledo and Iowa last weekend.
In just the second weekend of his UW career, Wike picked up six individual wins and was a member of two relay wins. Wike won two individual wins each day through three-straight days of competition.
Wike started the weekend with wins in the 400 IM (3:58.95) and 200 back (1:48.49) Thursday versus Toledo. Against Iowa, Wike touched first in the 100-yard backstroke (:49.59) and the 200 IM (1:51.05) Friday and he won the 200 back (1:49.04) and 400 IM (3:56.97) Saturday. He led off the Badgers' 200 medley relay win Friday and the 400 medley relay win Saturday versus Iowa.
It is Wike's first conference award and the Badgers ' first since Matt Marshall was honored Jan. 8, 2002.
