Men's Swimmers Sweep Day One At Arizona
November 01, 2002 | Men's Swimming & Diving
The No. 18 Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team picked up wins in all six swimming events Friday in a four-team exhibition. Competing against No. 10 Arizona, No. 11 Arizona State and the Mexican National team, Friday's events were not scored.
'This is new territory for us,' coach Eric Hansen said. 'That's why we came here; to see how we stack up against top-10 teams. We're very happy about it.'
The Badgers picked up wins in both relays: the 200 medley and 800 free. James Wike, Adam Mania and Kevin Zakrzewksi added wins in the 400 IM, 100 back and 100 breast, respectively. Junior Matt Marshall touched first (48.40) in the 100 fly.
'We look to carry the momentum into tomorrow,' Hansen said. 'In meets like these, we swim better on the second day.'
The Badgers close competition in Arizona tomorrow with events starting at 1 p.m. Tomorrow's events will be scored.
