Piper Named Big Ten Co-Swimmer of the Week

The Big Ten Conference named sophomore distance freestyler Carly Piper its Women 's Co-Swimmer of the Week Tuesday. Piper was honored for her performance at the Minnesota Invite. It is her second-straight weekly honor and third of the season.
In her first 1650 freestyle race of the season, Piper qualified for the NCAAs in the event Sunday, taking first in 16:26.09. It is her second NCAA automatic time this year. Earlier this season at Iowa, she qualified for the NCAAs in the 500 free.
Piper picked up two more individual wins in the 200 (1:49.38) and 500 (4:48.27) freestyle events at Minnesota. She earned her fourth victory of the weekend as a member of the 800 free relay, leading off the event that touched in at 7:24.80.
The Badgers do not compete this weekend, but are preparing for one of the biggest meets of the year, the Texas Invitational. The University of Texas plays host to the Texas Invitational Dec. 5-7 in Austin, Texas.
