December 11, 2002 | Women's Swimming & Diving
The Big Ten conference named senior Sarah McCauley its Women's Swimmer of the Week Tuesday. McCauley was honored for her record-setting performance at the Texas Invitational. It is the first Big Ten weekly honor of her career.
McCauley (Tualatin, Ore.) broke three school records over the weekend, setting new UW marks in the 100 yard freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 back. A four-time All-American, McCauley swam NCAA automatic qualifying times in the 100 and 200 free and 100 and 200 back. She was also a member of the 400 free relay that finished in a NCAA automatic time. Swimming in seven events at Texas, McCauley finished third or higher in six events.
Four of McCauley's times rank in the nation's top-10, according to Taper & Shave's College Quick 50. Her 100 free and 100 back times rank fourth, her 200 free ranks fifth and her 200 back ranks sixth in the nation.
A UW co-captain, McCauley is the second Badger to earn Women 's Swimmer of the Week this season, joining sophomore Carly Piper (Grosse Pointe, Mich). Piper has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week three times this year.
