Badger Men Finish 12th at First Energy Intercollegiate

Led by junior Jon Turcott, the Wisconsin men's golf team finished 12th at the First Energy Intercollegiate in Akron, Ohio. The Badgers entered the final round in 14th, but posted a 301 Sunday to climb two spots in the team standings and end the weekend with a 903 at par-72 Firestone Country Club's North Course.
Turcott led the way with a 76-73-76'225 to finish tied for 37th, one shot ahead of fellow junior Joel Rechlicz, who finished tied for 42nd with a 74-74-78'226.
The freshmen trio of Michael Baldwin, Dylan Esterling and Kevin Tassistro rounded out the Badger scoring. Baldwin ended with a 77 Sunday to finish tied for 47th with a 228. Esterling shot a 78-76-75'229 to finish tied for 52nd. Tassistro fired the low round of the day for Wisconsin with a 1-over 73 to finish with a 231 and tie for 63rd.
Toledo survived a one-hole playoff with Penn State to claim the team title with an 869. Eric Phipps of Miami (OH) held on to take medalist honors with a 5-under 211, one shot ahead of Jeff Overton from Indiana who fired a 6-under 66 on Sunday.
The Badgers travel to East Lansing, Mich., next weekend for the Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
