Men's Golf Opens Big Tens in 10th

The Wisconsin men's golf team opened play the 2002 Big Ten Championship with a 297-300'597 to sit tied for 10th with Penn State heading into the third round at the par-72 Finkbine Golf Course. Junior Joel Rechlicz is tied for 28th to lead the Badgers.
Purdue has an early four-shot lead in the team standings after posting an 8-under-par 279-289'568. Minnesota and Northwestern are locked in a tie for second at 572, followed by Iowa at 577 and Michigan at 578. Justin Smith of Minnesota has the individual lead after shooting a 4-under-par 71-69'140.
Rechlicz started to heat up in the second round after posting a 4-over-par 76 in the morning. The Madison, Wis., native carded six birdies en route to a 1-under-par 71 to help him jump 10 spots on the leaderboard.
Junior Jon Turcott fired an even-par 72 in the opening round before adding a 76 in the afternoon to sit tied for 32nd at 148. Freshmen Dylan Esterling and Kevin Tassistro are tied for 44th after shooting matching 151s. Fellow frosh Michael Baldwin shot a 78-78'156 to tie for 53rd.
Third-round action at the Big Ten Championship begins Saturday at 9 a.m., with the final round teeing off Sunday at 8 a.m.
