Swimmers Set For Janet Evans Invite

Several University of Wisconsin swimmers are competing this weekend in the Janet Evans Invitational at the USC McDonald's Swim Stadium on the USC campus in Los Angeles. The Janet Evans Invite is a part of the USA Swimming 2002 Grand Prix Series.
Representing the Badger women are Molly Buhrandt, Betsy Hassebroek, Jenny Lyman, Courtney Lynam, Sarah McCauley, Carly Piper and Emily Pisula. The UW men 's contingent includes Andrew Ackley, Chris Anderson, Brink Ciferri, Matt Marshall, Brian Neuman, Pat Torpey, Kevin Zakrzewski and Matt Zuiderhof.
The Badgers will face world record holders Michael Phelps, Aaaron Peirsol, Lenny Krayzelburg, Natalie Coughlin and Lyndsay Benko and other American record holders and Olympic medalists.
According to the seed times, several Badgers rank in the top ten on the Janet Evans' psych sheet. Piper ranks ninth in the 200 free and 10th in the 400 free, while Pisula sits at 10th in the 200 IM. Marshall ranks eighth in the 100 butterfly and Neuman is also eighth in the 100 breaststroke. The psych sheet's top three, plus the Badger swimmers are listed below.
The Janet Evans Invitational begins Thursday at 7 p.m. (CST), with the 800 meter freestyle. UW's Piper and Ackley are scheduled to compete in the 800. On Friday through Sunday, preliminary action starts at 11 a.m. (CST). The top 24 prelim times will qualify for the 7 p.m. (CST) finals.
