Piper Qualifies for Olympic Trials

Wisconsin women's swimmer Carly Piper swam an Olympic Trials qualifying time in the 400 meter freestyle Friday at the Janet Evans Invitational in Los Angeles. Piper finished fifth in the event in 4:19.00.
Several Badgers are competing in the invite this weekend in preparation for the 2002 Phillips 66 National Championships in August.
In the 100 free, Sarah McCauley finished 10th (57.30) in a nationals qualifying time. Jenny Lyman took 21st in 58.80.
McCauley added another nationals qualifying time in the 200 back, finishing in 2:19.76 in prelims. She finished 15th (2:20.66) in the finals. Betsy Hassebroek touched in at 2:21.45 in the 200 back.
