July 22, 2002 | Women's Swimming & Diving
The final day at the Janet Evans Invitational was no different than the previous three days for Wisconsin women's swimmers Carly Piper and Sarah McCauley. Piper and McCauley, who swam nationals qualifying times on each day they competed, tacked on qualifying times Sunday in the 1500 meter free and 100 backstroke, respectively.
McCauley took eighth in the 100 back (1:05.10) and also finished eighth in the 200 IM (2:24.23). Piper touched in at 16:55.98 in the 1500 free, good for fourth.
Emily Pisula and Betsy Hassebroek also saw action in event finals Sunday. Pisula took 12th (2:22.76) in the 200 IM consolation final and 19th (1:15.94) in the 100 breaststroke. Hassebroek grabbed 18th (1:05.74) in the 100 back.
Next up for the Badgers is the 2002 Phillips 66 National Championships, Aug 12-17, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
