Golfers Take Twelfth at First Day of Tournament
September 28, 2002 | Men's Golf
Wisconsin men's golf team sits in twelfth place at the Northern Intercollegiate at Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Indiana. Due to a two-hour fog delay in the morning, play did not begin until 10:00 AM. Tournament play was postponed due to darkness at 6:20 PM and only 18-holes were finalized for the day. The 16-team tournament is currently led by Illinois who totaled 280 strokes for the first 18 and were at three-under-par when play was called 15 holes through the second round. Wisconsin sits at twelve-over-par thru 13 holes of the second round and shot 292 on the first 18 holes.
Sophomores Brian Brodell and Michael Baldwin lead the Badgers, both tied at eleventh at one-under-par thru the 14th hole. During the first round, Brodell finished with a one-over-par 72 and Baldwin at even-par. Competing as an individual, sophomore Wes Hansen is tied for 37th with a 75 for the first round and currently sits at four-over-par.
With a few extra holes to play tomorrow, any team still has a chance at the top spot. Play will resume tomorrow at 8:30 AM with the pairings unchanged to finish rounds two and three.
