Badger Golf Invitational First Round Results

Toledo is out of the gates fast in defense of its 2001 Badger Invitational title shooting a four-under par 284 after the first round of the 54-hole meet Friday at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona. Illinois and Penn State also managed sub-par rounds in the opening 18 with 285 and 286.
The host Badgers are 12th with a 298 as the 15-team invitational begins its second day. Sophomore Brian Brodell had a three-under 69 to lead the Badgers and place third overall in the 75-person field.
Toledo's David Jones and Greg Pieczynski of Penn State tied the men's collegiate course record with 67's. Nineteen golfers recorded sub-par rounds in a blustery but sunny opening day.
Play resumes Saturday and Sunday with 18 holes each day starting at 9 a.m. CST from No. 1. Sunday tee times will be off both No. 1 and 10 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Badger tee times begin with Dylan Esterling at 9:50 a.m. off No. 1, and continue in reverse order of finish with Brodell teeing at 10:30 a.m.
