Openweights Improve at Head of the Charles

Wisconsin women's openweights were eighth among college crews in the championship eight and sixth among colleges in the championship four at the Head of Charles on the Charles River, Sunday.
The UW clocked a time of 16:38.497 over the three-mile course to finish 12th overall among 40 boats in the championship eight race. The result was the best for the Badgers since the 2000 race when they place eighth. London Training Center won the race in 15:31.082. Yale University finished as the top American college boat with a fourth-place result in 16:08.259. Other colleges ahead of the Badgers included Princeton, Brown, Radcliffe, Michigan, Stanford and Virginia. Wisconsin's 12th-place result was bettered various college teams including Iowa, Minnesota, USC, Cornell, Pennsylvania, Texas, Columbia and Notre Dame, among others.
The Badgers' championship four entry placed ninth overall and sixth among American colleges in 18:44.879. London Training Center again took the race, this time in 17:27.356. Brown finished third as the top college boat in 18:04.502. Virginia, Oregon State, UCLA and Yale also placed higher than the UW, while the Badgers bested boats from Princeton, Michigan, Northeastern, Texas, Boston College and Clemson.
Wisconsin completes its fall season next Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa at the Head of the Iowa. Wisconsin's top boat was second at the event last year.
