The Wisconsin women's soccer team wraps up its Big Ten season Friday when it heads to Minneapolis, Minn., to take on the Golden Gophers of Minnesota at 7 p.m. at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
Wisconsin (7-8-1, 3-6-0 Big Ten) leads the all-time series between the two schools 8-5-0. This is Wisconsin's final Big Ten match of season before facing two non-conference opponents UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay.
The Badgers are led by senior co-captain Jenny Kundert, freshman Kara Kabellis and sophomore sensation Katy Lindenmuth. Kundert ranks eighth in the Big Ten in scoring with 15 points and second with four game-winning goals. Last season, Kundert was the UW's co-MVP while leading the Badgers in almost every offensive statistical category. True freshman Kabellis is right behind Kundert on the team in shots taken with 37. Lindenmuth is tied for sixth in the Big Ten for assists with five.
Minnesota (5-8-2, 2-6-1 Big Ten) is coming off their worst loss in school history last week after traveling to Penn State and being handed an 8-1 loss. To the Gophers' credit, Minnesota responded against No. 25 Ohio State last Sunday holding the Buckeyes off the scoreboard until eventually falling in overtime, 1-0. Haley Lentsch leads the Gophers with 15 points (5g, 4a), while Rebecca Dellaria has contributed 14 (4g, 5a). Karli Kopietz has posted a 5-6-1 record in goal with a 2.19 goals-against-average and a .730 save percentage.
For the Badgers, this Friday represents a chance to tune for the postseason as the Badgers will play host to the Big Ten Championships Nov. 6-9. Even if the team does not finish in the top eight of the regular season standing, the team will still earn an automatic bid for the tournament since it will serve as the host institution.
Last year in the Big Ten finale for each team, the Badgers scored four goals in the first half en route to a 4-1 victory over the Gophers.
