Freshman Garrett Jones Led Golfers at Nestle Purina Classic

Rookie Garrett Jones led the Badger men's golfers at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Course in St. Charles, Mo. at the Nestle Purina Classic. He fired 18-hole rounds of 72-71-73--216 in a tie for 21st.
Wisconsin finished in ninth place of the nine teams competing, but its third round score of 288 tied the lowest total since October 8, 2001. The first round score of 298 and second round 300 combined for a 54-hole total of 886.
Second among the Badgers was junior Kevin Tassistro, who tied his 18-hole career low in the third round of play. With scores of 77-73-70--220, he tied for 30th among individuals. Junior Brian Brodell tied for 40th, carding 75-77-73--225. Fourth for the team was freshman T.J. Blakemore with rounds of 74-81-73--228. Freshman Ryan Conn placed 47th with 78-79-72--229.
Taking home the team medal was Kansas State University, who shot a second round 18-hole course record 268 and 54-hole record 830. Individual medalist Matt VanCleave of Kansas State also shot 18-hole (65) and 54-hole (202) course records.
The Badgers next competition is Oct. 13-14 when they head to Cincinnati, Ohio to participate in the Xavier Invitational. This tournament will be Wisconsin's final fall test.
