Piper Named National Swimmer of the Week

University of Wisconsin junior swimmer Carly Piper has yet another award to add to her long list of accomplishments. CollegeSwimming.com has named Piper its Division I women 's swimmer of the week for the week ending Nov. 9.
Piper earned the award based on her performance in leading then 12th-ranked Wisconsin to a 142-100 dual meet win over Indiana last Friday. She won three individual meets in the event ' the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.92), the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.77) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:03.32). The 200 free mark achieved an NCAA 'B' cut standard.
As of the end of last week's action, Piper held the nation 's fourth-fastest time in the 1000 free (9:51.27), the 12th-fastest mark in the 500 free (4:49.84) and the 14th-fastest time in the 200 free (1:49.61). Her top times in the 200 and 500 free have both earned 'B' cuts. The 1000 free is not an NCAA championship meet event.
Wisconsin is currently ranked 10th in the CSCAA dual meet poll and has a 3-1 overall dual meet mark and a 3-0 Big Ten dual record. The Badgers return to action Nov. 21-23 when they compete in the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
