Meuer Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week
November 03, 2003 | Women's Soccer
University of Wisconsin junior midfielder/defender Molly Meuer has been named the Big Ten Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday. It is the first such honor for Meuer in her career.
She is the second Badger to earn a Player of the Week honor from the Big Ten this season, as senior Jenny Kundert was named the Offensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 8.
Meuer, a Madison native and Memorial High graduate, played a key role in helping lead the Badgers to two victories last week. In Wednesday's 2-1 win over UW-Milwaukee, Meuer scored the first goal of the game and helped anchor a stingy Badger defense that allowed just two Panthers shots in the match.
In Sunday's 3-0 victory over UW-Green Bay in the regular season finale, Meuer assisted on a second-half goal and led another strong defensive effort as the Phoenix managed only three shots. For the week, Wisconsin outshot its two opponents 45-5.
Wisconsin, the No. 8 seed, will take a 10-8-1 record into its Big Ten tournament quarterfinal matchup with top-seeded Penn State (16-2-2) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the McClimon Complex.
