Women's Swimmers ready for final evening of NCAAs

Senior Sarah McCauley, sophomore Carly Piper and the 400 free relay squad will lead the Wisconsin women's swimmers in tonight's sixth and final session of the 2003 NCAA Championships. The Badgers sit one point out of the top-10.
In prelims action this morning, McCauley tied UCLA's Malin Svahnstrom for 16th in the 100 free (:49.93). With the consolation final berth on the line, McCauley and Svahnstrom led off their team's 400 free relay. McCauley beat Svahnstrom to the wall, 49.61 to 49.94, winning the swim-off and will swim in the 100 free tonight.
Piper, Bethany Pendleton and Jenny Lyman continued the 400 free relay for the Badgers. The 400 free relay placed fifth overall (3:18.65) and will compete in tonight's final.
Piper will kick off the evening's events at 7 p.m., swimming in the final heat of the 1,650 free.
