EAWRC Ranks Badgers Fourth in 2nd Varsity Eight, Novice Eight

The Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) released its first coaches poll of 2003 and put Wisconsin's women's openweights fourth in the second varsity eight and novice eight categories, and ranked the varsity eight 15th. The EAWRC serves as the Badgers' rowing conference in addition to the Big Ten.
Princeton took 10 of 11 first-place votes to lead the contingent of second varsity eight boats. Radcliffe, which received the other first-place nod, and Brown also ranked ahead of the Badgers in the ranking.
Brown is the leader in the novice eight rankings, garnering 10 of 12 first-place votes. Yale ranks second and earned one first-place vote, while Princeton ranks third. Thirteenth-ranked Boston University earned the final first-place vote.
In the varsity eight, Radcliffe took the top spot with 11 of 12 votes. Second-ranked Princeton took the lone remaining first-place nod. Rounding out the top five are Brown, Yale and Virginia.
There were no polls for the varsity four and second novice eight this week.
The Badgers compete this Saturday, April 19 at the Big Ten Double Dual on Lake Phalen in Maplewood, Minn. The Badgers will race against Big Ten foes Minnesota and Iowa in the event.
