Wisconsin Openweight Women Advance to Petite Final

The Wisconsin women's openweight team raced in the San Diego Crew Classic, placing fifth in its heat on Mission Bay to advance to tomorrow's petite final.
With temperatures in the upper 50s, and in windy, but sunny conditions the team raced in heat `B' for the Jessop-Whittier Cup. No. 3 Stanford won the heat with a time of 6:59.9. No. 7 Southern California finished second in 6:59.52. Finishing third was Ohio State with a 7:08.50. Tennessee placed fourth in 7:11.17. Wisconsin was the fifth team to cross the line in 7:14.72. Rounding out the heat was Minnesota, who raced a 7:6.87 and Clemson, who crossed the line in 7:16.99.
'The team made some key changes in their approach to racing today,' head coach Maren LaLiberty said. 'They followed through on a commitment to work on boat swings. The boat will race again tomorrow with a renewed sense of teamwork and an eye on continuing to improve boat speed.'
The women will race tomorrow at 11:40 a.m. PDT in the petite final.
