Gladding, Waters Named All-Big Ten Rowing
May 06, 2003 | Women's Rowing
Senior women's openweight rowers Erin Gladding (St. Louis) and Marianna Waters (Shorewood, Wis.) were chosen to the All-Big Ten team following the 2003 Big Ten Rowing Championships held on Saturday. Gladding was picked to the first team, while Waters, making her second appearance on the All-Big Ten squad, was named to the second team.
Gladding became a rower on the varsity eight following a stint on the second varsity eight for the Princeton Quad and the Knecht Cup. Gladding rowed for the UW 's top boat and kept her position the rest of the way when she stroked the varsity eight at the Big Ten Double Dual against Minnesota and Iowa. She also helped the boat to a win at the Midwest Rowing Championships and in the boat's sixth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships.
Waters, a first-team pick in 2002 and the second UW rower named All-Big Ten twice, rowed in the varsity eight for the Big Ten Championships. The team co-captain contributed to her boat's Midwest Rowing Championships title and to a fourth-place result at the Princeton Quad against three ranked teams. Waters also rowed in the second varsity eight at the Big Ten Double Dual.
The Badger women's openweights have this week off from competition, but return to the water for the Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges Regatta, the Eastern Sprints, on May 18. Racing will take place on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
