Trio of Swimmers Place at U.S. Nationals

Junior Adam Mania placed in two events to lead three University of Wisconsin swimmers to place-finishes during Day 2 of competition at the ConocoPhillips U.S. National Championships Wednesday.
Mania joined seniors Matt Marshall and Dale Rogers in reaching the finals of the 100-meter freestyle. Marshall, a Chico, Calif., native, earned the highest finish of the Badger competitors, finishing sixth in the 'B' final in a time of 51.19. He posted the 16th-fastest time of the 24 swimmers in the three finals heats.
Mania finished fifth in the 'C' final and 21st overall in the 100 free in a time of 51.67. Rogers, Durham, Calif., native, tied for seventh in the 'C' finals to finish tied for 23rd with a finishing time of 52.36.
Mania earned his second place-finish of the night by reaching the finals of the 200-meter backstroke. The Hickman, Neb., native finished first in the 'C' final with a time of 2:03.89. The mark was the 10th-fastest time for any swimmer that reached the finals round.
The U.S. National Championships continue competition through Saturday, Aug. 9.
