Mania, Marshall Earn Top-10 Finishes at National Meet

Junior Adam Mania placed sixth in the 100-meter backstroke and senior Matt Marshall finished seventh in the 100 butterfly to lead University of Wisconsin swimmers during Day 4 of competition at the ConocoPhillips U.S. National Championships Friday.
Mania, Hickman, Neb., native, posted the fifth-fastest qualifying time in the preliminary round (55.78), before falling one spot to sixth place in the championship 'A' final with a time of 56.10. The finish is the highest by a Badger swimmer at the Championships thus far.
Marshall also qualified for the championship final by qualifying with the seventh-fastest time in the prelims. The Chico, Calif., native held his ground in the finals heat, posting a time of 54.59.
On the women's side, Amalia Sarnecki finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore from Ann Arbor, Mich., finished 14th in the preliminary round before recording a finals time of 1:12.52.
Competition at the U.S. National Championships concludes Saturday.
