Sara Bauer Named USCHO.com Offensive Player of the Week
October 15, 2004 | Women's Hockey
U.S. College Hockey Online selected Wisconsin women's hockey sophomore Sara Bauer as the Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 10.
Her first weekly national honor was earned against Wayne State at the Kohl Center last weekend when she score her first career hat trick and helped the No. 3 Badgers sweep the Warriors in a decisive 8-1 score Friday and 11-0 shutout in the rematch.
The following is from USCHO.com:
A year ago as a freshman, Sara Bauer was Wisconsin's top point scorer despite having just eight goals all season. In took her just two games this season to reach half of that total. In an 8-1 win over Wayne state of Friday Bauer (St. Catherines, Ont.) remarkably completed her first career hat trick on her first three shots on goal. As the Badgers outshot the Warriors 30-2 in the first period, Bauer scored the only two Wisconsin goals in the period. She followed up Friday's hat trick with a one-goal three-assist effort on Saturday in an 11-0 win, which shattered the school 's since game scoring record. Lindsay Macy assisted on all three of Bauer 's goals, and Bauer followed up by assisting on two fo three goals of Macy 's hat trick the next day. Last year it was Macy getting the bulk of the foals for the Badgers, but this year goalies best be wary of both sophomore forwards putting the puck on net.
Honorable mention: Lindsay Macy, So., Wisconsin; Kelly Stephens, Sr., Minnesota
