March 23, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Wisconsin junior point guard Devin Harris was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday. Harris, the Big Ten Player of the Year, led Wisconsin to a school-record 25 wins, the Big Ten tournament title and the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Harris set a school record this season, scoring 624 points. That surpassed the old single-season record of 620, set by Michael Finley in 1992-93. Harris also established new single-season highs in free throws (171), free throw attempts (216) and minutes played (1,162). His 75 three-pointers are tied for second on UW's single season list and his 141 assists ranks him fourth.
Harris is a finalist for the Wooden, Naismith and Rupp Player of the Year Awards, all of which are announced after the Final Four. He is also a finalist for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award.
