Mania Finishes 27th in 200 Back at Olympics

University of Wisconsin swimmer Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.) raced to a time of 2:03.73 in the qualifying heat of the 200-meter backstroke but did not advance to the semifinal round at the 2004 Olympic Games.
Mania, who is competing for Poland, finished sixth in his heat and 27th overall. Team USA's Aaron Peirsol, the 2004 NCAA champion in the event, won with a time of 1:57.33.
The top 16 swimmers will compete in the semifinal round later today.
Mania, a senior-to-be who also did not advance past the qualifying round in the 100-meter backstroke on Sunday, has concluded competition at the Olympic Games. He and his fellow Badgers will begin the 2004-05 season in the Wisconsin Invitational Oct. 8 at the UW Natatorium.
