University Ridge Rated One of the Top Collegiate Courses

University Ridge Golf Course has been rated one of the top collegiate courses in the nation according to the Sept. 4 Golfweek Magazine. Opened in 1991, Robert Trent Jones-designed course was ranked the eighth best college campus course.
The No. 1 rating went to Taconic Golf Club, the Williams College Course in Williamstown, Mass. Other courses among the top-10 include Yale at No. 2, The Ohio State University Scarlet Course at No. 5 and Stanford University at No. 6. Michigan 's course was rated ninth, Duke University was 10th, and Purdue's Birck Boilermaker Kampen Course was 13th.
The par 72, 6,888-yard course has achieved high marks consistently in by several ratings including a 4 1/2 Star Rating by Golf Digest, and a 5 Star Rating by Chicagoland Golf Magazine. Local publications rate The Ridge as "Best of Madison" by Madison Magazine; "Madison's Favorite" by the Isthmus and the "Reader's Choice" Award Winner by the Wisconsin State Journal/Capital Times.
When it opened in 1992, University Ridge was ranked third in Golf Digest's Best New Public Golf Courses. University Ridge is ranked No. 3 in Golf Week's Top College Golf Courses.
In 2000, University Ridge was ranked the ninth best course in the state by Golf Digest. University Ridge has been ranked one of the top 10 courses in the state of Wisconsin for 10 consecutive years.
University Ridge Golf Shop was voted one of "America's 100 Best Golf Shops" by Golf Shop Operations several years running. It is the only golf shop in Wisconsin to receive this honor.
The University Ridge Golf Course is located at 9002 County Road PD, Verona, WI; Phone: 608/845-7700. The Ridge offers a spectacular view of the rolling terrain as well as 6,888 yards of championship challenge. The course features a fairly wide-open front nine followed by an undulating back nine that offers holes cut into extremely deep woods.
Fans can see the course this weekend when the UW men's golf team tees it up for the Northern Intercollegiate Golf Invitational. The 54-hole tournament begins with a shotgun start both Saturday and Sunday. The 13 teams play 36 holes on Saturday, and 18 holes on Sunday.
