Great Effort By Badgers Comes Up Just Short

The University of Wisconsin's 25th-ranked women's soccer team is still looking for its first Big Ten victory this season after a 1-0 loss at 10th-ranked Illinois Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Kara Kabellis (Homer Glen, Ill.) led the attack for the Badgers (6-3-1 overall, 0-3-1 Big Ten) with four shots and freshman goalkeeper Lynn Murray (Marietta, Ga.) made six saves.
Illinois (8-2-0, 2-1-0) scored the only goal of the game in the 74th minute when Tara Hurless capitalized on a corner kick.
Wisconsin had a great opportunity to tie the game with less than 30 seconds left, but no one could get to a pass across the goal made by junior midfielder/forward Amy Vermeulen (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).
'We played a great game today,' head coach Dean Duerst said. 'We held the ball in the offensive zone during the second half, but we just didn't get the results.'
The Badgers tour the state of Indiana next weekend, taking on Purdue at 3 p.m. Friday in West Lafayette and Indiana at 1 p.m. Sunday in Bloomington.
