Wisconsin in Fifth at Xavier Invite

The Wisconsin men's golf team concluded the first day of the 13th annual Xavier Invitational in fifth place after rounds of 283 and 289 Monday at Oasis Golf Club in Loveland, Ohio.
With 18 holes left to play in the 19-team tournament, UW sits at 4-under par 572, two shots behind in-state rival Marquette for fourth place and one shot clear of Big Ten foe Indiana.
The Badgers posted three scores under par in the opening round, led by a career-best three-under 69 by freshman Pat Duffy. The Appleton, Wis. native carded a 75 in the afternoon round and is tied for 28th place at even-par 144.
Fellow freshman Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.) joined Duffy at 144 after following a morning 74 with a team-best 70 in the second round.
Garrett Jones (Rewey, Wis.) leads Wisconsin at two-under 142. The junior opened the tournament with a 70 before shooting even-par in the afternoon. Jones, who has now competed in 61 consecutive tournament rounds for the Badgers dating back to October 2003, has been UW's top finisher in all three tournaments this fall.
Sophomore Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.) posted his best round of the day in the morning, a two-under 70. Kaiser will begin play tomorrow tied for 36th place at 1-over 145.
Ben Herrera (Waukee, Iowa) matched his career best with a second round 72. The freshman also established a new personal low for 36 holes at 148 and is tied for 47th place at 4-over.
Louisville leads the tournament at 557, four strokes better than host-school Xavier. John Streibich of Xavier sits atop the leaderboard at 10-under 134 after twin rounds of 67.
The Xavier Invitational concludes with 18 holes Tuesday beginning at 8:00 a.m. EDT.
