Murray Tabbed Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week
October 31, 2005 | Women's Soccer
Wisconsin goalkeeper Lynn Murray has been named the Big Ten defensive player of the week, the conference announced Monday. Murray did not allow a goal in the Badgers' final regular-season weekend.
It is the first career honor for Murray, who tied a season-best with nine saves in the net against Northwestern Oct. 28 in a game that was a must-win for the Badgers to earn a berth into the Big Ten tournament. She also recorded two saves in Wisconsin's 2-0 win over Colorado College Oct. 30. It was the first time in her career that Murray has shut out two back-to-back opponents.
Murray, a sophomore, becomes the first Wisconsin player to earn Big Ten accolades this season and the first since Amy Vermeulen was named Big Ten offensive player of the week Sept. 13, 2004.
The Badgers, who earned the No. 7 seed, will battle No. 2 Purdue at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the opening round of the 2005 Big Ten Tournament.
