November 02, 2005 | Women's Soccer
Three Wisconsin women's soccer players earned All-Big Ten honors the conference announced Wednesday. Senior Marisa Brown and junior Kara Kabellis were named to the first team while senior Amy Vermeulen was selected to the second team.
It was the first career honor for Brown, who Thursday will most likely earn her 89th career start to stand alone on Wisconsin's all-time career starts list. Named to the Big Ten all-tournament team in 2004, Brown has two goals and six assists on the year from her midfield position.
Kabellis was named to first team after being named to second team in 2004. She is tied for first on the team with seven goals this season and also has four assists for 18 points. Kabellis leads the team with 55 shots.
Vermeulen earned her second all-conference honor with a second-team selection. She also leads the team with seven goals on the season and has dished seven assists for a team-high 21 points. Her 25 shots on goal also lead the Badger squad.
Senior Jessica Ring also was Wisconsin's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Wisconsin (10-8-2, 3-6-1 Big Ten) will battle Purdue at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the 2005 Big Ten Tournament.
