Wisconsin Tied With Eastern Kentucky

Brian Brodell leads the Badgers after day one of the TaylorMade/Bruce Fossum Invitational Saturday at Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Badgers' 603 strokes (302-301) has them even with Eastern Kentucky after the first day. Eastern Kentucky managed the tournament's fifth-lowest team round in the second 18 holes with a 298.
Brodell used an opening-round 73, the team's lowest round of the day, to earn a 24th place tie thanks to a 75-stroke performance in the following round for a 148 total.
Garrett Jones finished one stroke behind Brodell with a 149 (74-75), earning a 35th-place tie. Jeff Kaiser continued the consistent scoring with a 151-stroke effort for a 46th-place tie (76-75).
Kevin Tassistro completed the Wisconsin scoring effort with a 156, managing a 76 during the second round to earn a tie for 69th (80-76). A.J. DeLawyer completed the Badger effort with a pair of 79's to finish tied for 75th at 158 strokes.
Xavier registered the only sub-par team score for the day, a six under-par 570 to lead the field by 10 strokes. Host Michigan State is the closest competition, lying ten strokes behind with a 580. Indiana's Jeff Overton shot two sub-70 rounds Saturday with a 135-stroke total (68-67) to lead the rest of the field by four strokes heading into Sunday's final round.
