UW junior-to-be Garrett Jones, who led the U.S. Amateur Public Links Tournament in Lebanon, Ohio, after the first round with a 66, fired a 5-over par 75 the second day but made the cut tying for 11th with a 1-over 141.
Jones, of Rewey, Wis., and the Badger season record holder for lowest stroke average with 72.74 strokes per round set last year, is seeded 14th as the tournament enters match play. He will play 51st-seeded Jacob Low of Hilo, Hawaii, in the first round.
In the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship at Brown County Golf Club in Oneida, sophomore Patrick Duffy of Appleton shot a 70 in the second round and is tied for third at 3-under 141. Duffy red-shirted his freshman season and has four years of eligibility remaining at UW. The tournament concludes with two more rounds on Wednesday and Thursday.
