Badgers Open Big Ten Season at Iowa, Illinois

The 15th-ranked Wisconsin women's soccer team (5-1-2, 0-0-0 Big Ten) will open the Big Ten portion of the 2005 schedule this weekend with games against Iowa and Illinois.
The Badgers will face the Hawkeyes at 7 p.m. Friday in Iowa City, Iowa, before battling the Fighting Illini at 1 p.m. Sunday in Champaign, Ill.
Team Leaders
Seniors Amy Vermeulen and Katy Lindenmuth lead the Badgers with four and three goals on the season, respectively. Kara Kabellis, Allison Preiss and Taylor Walsh each have tallied two scores.
Vermeulen leads the team with 23 shots, including 12 on goal. Priess leads the squad with four assists.
Goalkeeper Lynn Murray has tallied 39 saves in eight games of action.
Three Named to All-Tournament Team
Kara Kabellis, Taylor Walsh and Marisa Brown were each named to the Big Toe Invitational All-Tournament team over the weekend. In addition, Brown was dubbed the tournament's most outstanding defensive player.
Last Time Out ' UW-Milwaukee
Wisconsin blanked in-state rival UW-Milwaukee 4-0 Saturday in the final game of the Big Toe Invitational. Redshirt freshman Taylor Walsh scored her first and second career goals in the first half. Senior Katy Lindenmuth and junior Allison Preiss would add scores in the second half to give the Badgers the win.
Last Time Out ' BYU
The Badgers suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Brigham Young Friday in the Big Toe Invitational. Junior Kara Kabellis netted the lone goal for the Badgers. BYU would go on to defeat Colgate 2-0 Saturday and take first place in the tournament.
Scouting Iowa
Iowa enters Big Ten action with a 1-5-2 record, its only win coming in a 3-2 overtime at Air Force.
Stephanie Hyink leads the Hawkeyes with three goals this season. Katelyn Quinn leads the team with 33 shots.
Goalkeeper Lindsey Boldt has tallied 43 saves in the net.
The UW-Iowa Series
Wisconsin leads the all-time series with Iowa, 5-2-1. Last year, the Badgers earned a 2-0 win in Madison.
Scouting Illinois
Illinois opens conference play with a 4-2-2 record on the year.
Four members of the squad - Eva Strickland, Laura Redmond, Marti Desjarlais and Natasha Karniski - have each scored two goals this season. Teammate Jessica Bayne leads the team with four assists.
Goalkeeper Lindsey Carstens has 22 saves on the year for the Fighting Illini.
The UW-Illinois Series
Wisconsin leads the all-time series with Illinois 5-4-0. In 2004, the Fighting Illini escaped with a 1-0 victory over the Badgers in Champaign.
Twice is Nice
Seniors Amy Vermeulen and Katy Linden-muth, along with redshirt freshman Taylor Walsh, have all scored twice in a game this season. Vermeulen recorded two goals in Wisconsin's 2-0 victory over Oklahoma (9/2) and Lindenmuth netted two scores in a 3-2 overtime win at then-No. 23 Kansas (8/28). Walsh was the third member to join the club with two goals in the first half against UW-Milwaukee (9/18).
