Jones Rebounds with Second Round 66

UW men's golfer Garrett Jones shot a second round 66 to jump into a tie for 30th place after the first day of the Wolverine Intercollegiate at the UM Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The junior from Rewey, Wis. rebounded from a 78 in the morning to shoot the best round of the afternoon and close the day at 144, 10 shots behind leader Brian Ottenweller of Michigan. As a team, the Badgers ended the day in 15th place at 299-298=597, five strokes behind Furman University.
Freshman Nick Engen (McFarland, Wis.) is four shots behind Jones at 178 after shooting rounds of 73 and 75.
Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.) opened his UW career with a 71 in the morning. Obermueller is tied for 73rd place at 71-81=152. Also playing in his first rounds as a Badger, Paul Jacobsen (Racine, Wis.) posted a 76 in the afternoon and is tied for 83rd place at 83-76=159.
Sophomore Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.) closed out the UW effort with rounds of 77 and 81. Kaiser is tied for 80th place with 18 holes left to play.
Host school Michigan leads the 15-team tournament at 16-under 552.
Play resumes Sunday morning at the Wolverine Intercollegiate at the UM Golf Course. The action begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
