The Wisconsin men's golf team is currently tied for second place at the Memphis Intercollegiate being played at the par-72, 7,249 yard Colonial Country Club in Cordova, TN. After two rounds of play the Badgers have a total team score of 576 and trail the leader, Louisville, by 13 strokes.
The Badgers shot two consecutive rounds of even-par 288 but could not keep pace with Louisville who shot a team total of 563 (282-281). The Cardinals, who are ranked 11th nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, also finished the first two rounds with four players in the top five.
UW had many strong individual performances during the tournament's first day as sophomores Tyler Obemueller (River Falls, Wis.) and Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.) both finished in the top 10. Obermueller, tied for fifth place, shot a career best first round of 69 and then shot a 73 in the second round to also record his career best 36 hole total with a 142. Woltman shot a one-under par 143 (72-71) and is tied for ninth.
Rewey, Wis., native Garrett Jones shot two consecutive rounds of even-par 72 to finish the first day tied for 14th with a 144.
Making his Badger debut today was freshmen Jordan Elsen (Kenosha, Wis.) who shot a 75 and 73 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Elsen's four-over par 148 is good enough for a share of 29th place.
Rounding out the scoring for the Badgers was junior Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.). Kaiser followed up his first-round 81 with an even-par 72 in the afternoon. He is currently tied for 63rd place with a nine-over par 153.
