
Badgers in Ninth at Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational

The Wisconsin women's golf team is currently in ninth place with a 637 (324-313) at the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational being played at the par-72, 6,232 yard Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan.
Defending champion Kansas leads after posting a 304-306--610. Both rounds were the lowest team scores posted on the day.
Leading the way for the Badgers was junior Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.), who followed up a first-round 81 with a one-over par 73 in the second round. She is tied for sixth place with a 154.
Sophmores Jeanna Dahl and Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) both had a solid first day. Dahl, the Fargo, N.D., native, is tied for 22nd place after shooting a first-day total of 157 (81-76). Alvarez shot a 78 in the first round and followed that with an 84 in the second to finish with a 167 and a share of 37th place.
Rounding out the scoring for UW were freshman Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Jill Ries (Middleton, Wis.). Verbeten shot a 54-hole total 166 (84-82) and is tied for 54th. Ries is tied for 59th with a 168 (86-82).
The final round of the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational will get underway at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
