Wisconsin Shut Out Again
October 22, 2006 | Women's Soccer
The Wisconsin women's soccer team (6-8-3, 3-5-1 Big Ten) was shut out for the fourth consecutive match in a 1-0 hard-fought loss to UW-Milwaukee Sunday on the road.
The Panthers scored first in the 51st minute off their third consecutive corner kick. Sarah Teegarden scored what proved to be the winner. The win, just the second ever for UWM over the Badgers, improved the Panthers' record to 15-2-1. UW-Milwaukee also improved on its 10-game winning streak and 12-game unbeaten streak.
UW-Milwaukee took six corner kicks in the second half, compared to just one for Wisconsin. The Panthers finished the game with a 12-11 shot advantage.
In the 72nd minute, UWM's Erin Kreuser headed the ball after a corner kick and bumped the post and rested on the endline. The ball was cleared by the Badger defense to prevent another goal.
Wisconsin continued to create some offensive chances. In the 76th minute, sophomore Taylor Walsh (Madison, Wis.) fired the ball from about 15 yards out to the far post but it was saved by UWM keeper Erin Kane.
In the 81st minute, Allison Preiss (St. Louis, Mo.) took a little flick shot that unfortunately went right to keeper.
Junior keeper Lynn Murray (Marietta, Ga.) had three saves in the net for Wisconsin. Kane finished with four for the Panthers.
The teams played a scoreless first half, though Wisconsin had an 8-6 shot advantage over the Panthers. Both Preiss and Kara Kabellis (Lockport, Ill.) took quality shots on goal that were saved by Kane.
Wisconsin will close out the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday against Northwestern. The match, which also will signify senior day for the team, will be held at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
