
UW Men's Golf Team Earns Third at Memphis Intercollegiate

The Wisconsin men's golf team shot an 876 (288-288-300) Tuesday to earn third place at the 2006 Memphis Intercollegiate played at the par-72, 7,249-yard Colonial Country Club in Cordova, TN.
Leading the charge for the Badgers were sophomores Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.) and Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.). Obermueller, who shot a career best first round of 69 and then a 73 in the second round to also record his career best 36-hole total with a 142, finished with a two-over par 218 after recording a final-round 76. Woltman shot a 76 in the tournament's final round after firing a 72 in the first round and then one-under par 71 in the second. He finished the tournament tied for 15th with a three-over par 219.
Senior Garrett Jones (Rewey, Wis.) and freshman Jordan Elsen (Kenosha, Wis.) both finished tied for 17th place with a 220. Jones was consistent on the first day after shooting two consecutive even-par rounds of 72. On Tuesday he shot a four-over par 76 in the final round. Elsen, in his first collegiate tournament, continually improved on his first-round 75 by shooting a 73 in the second, and an even-par 72 in the final round.
Junior Jeff Kaiser (Onalska, Wis.) rounded out the scoring for the Badgers after finishing in a tie for 60th place with a 229 (81-72-76).
The Badgers have almost two weeks off before returning to the links to play their final tournament of the fall when they travel to Brandon, Ore., for the Big 10/Pac 10 challenge Oct. 23-24.
