Men's Hockey Plays Host to Pioneers
November 10, 2006 | Men's Hockey
When No. 7 Wisconsin men's hockey (4-4-2, 3-2-1 WCHA) plays host to the No. 14 Denver Pioneers (4-4-0, 2-2-0 WCHA) this Friday and Saturday at the Kohl Center, the games will pit the last three NCAA champions. Wisconsin won the 2006 NCAA title, while Denver won the 2004 and 2005 championships.
The Badgers look to reverse two trends that have proven a challenge to the UW pucksters. Wisconsin is 0-4-1 against Denver over the last five games and have just one win over DU all-time at the Kohl Center in 12 games played in the series.
The Badgers last defeated the Pioneers back on Oct. 29, 2004 for the team's only win against DU at the Kohl Center. Since then, the Badgers have dropped three games in Madison, while tying and dropping a game at Magness Arena in Denver.
Help appears on the way for the Badgers as senior forward Ross Carlson, who has missed the last seven games due to an injury, is expected to play this weekend. Carlson, the Badgers' leading returning scorer from last season tallied three assists in the first three games this season, before getting injured.
Fellow senior forwards Jake Dowell and Andrew Joudrey have been a key to the UW offense so far this season. Dowell leads the team with seven goals and five power-play tallies, and has scored at least one goal each weekend this season, while Joudrey leads the team with eight points, currently boasts a three-game assist streak and has points in six of his last seven contests.
Both UW contests will be shown live at 7 p.m., CT on FSN North and tape-delayed on Wisconsin Public Television at 10:30 p.m. The game can also be heard live on WIBA-AM 1310 radio in Madison, on the Wisconsin Radio Network around the state or at UWBADGERS.COM.
