Wisconsin to Vie in Minnesota Invitational
November 16, 2006 | Women's Swimming & Diving
The University of Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in the annual Minnesota Invitational held Friday-Sunday at University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
The Badgers performed well last year, as the women's team took fourth with 664 points while the men's team came in second with 678.5 points. The finishes were extra impressive considering that UW chose not to compete in Sunday's finals.
As usual, some of the top teams in the nation will be at the 15-school, three-day meet, including the Golden Gophers (the women's team is ranked No. 17, and the men are tied for fifth), No. 20 Notre Dame (women's only), No. 15 Tennessee (women 's only) and UCLA (diving only).
In 2005, Yi Ting Siow, who was named this week's Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, won the 200-yard IM (1:59.66) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:44.16). On the men 's side, Tom Molzahn captured third in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:32.41) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:26.20).
The schedule for the meet is as follows: The prelims on Friday begin at noon, with the finals at 6 p.m. The next day, prelims will be 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. On Sunday, prelims start at 10 a.m. and finals are at 3 p.m.
