
Pabich Named to U.S. National Team

Alicia Pabich, a freshman on the University of Wisconsin women's track and cross country teams, has been named to the U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships on March 11 in Clermont, Fla. Pabich will run in the 4,000-meter women's junior race at the National Training Center at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Pabich, a native of Waukesha, Wis., qualified for the national team by finishing 10th in the junior women's race at the 2006 USA Cross Country Championships on Feb. 18 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
One of the top four runners on the UW cross country team during the 2005 season, Pabich was the second UW finisher and 111th overall at the NCAA championship, covering the 6,000-meter course in 21:13.6. Pabich was also the second UW finisher and 28th overall at the Big Ten championship.
Pabich is scheduled to compete in the mile and possibly the distance medley relay when Wisconsin hosts the Big Ten Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday-Sunday in the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center. The pentathlon begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday while all open events begin at 1:30 p.m. Finals will be held in six events on the first day of competition. On Sunday, the weight throw will be held at 9:30 a.m. while all other events begin at 12:30 p.m. Finals in the remaining 12 events will be held on Sunday.
