The Wisconsin men's golf team finished in eighth place at the 2006 Big Ten Championships with a 318 Sunday while Garrett Jones and Jeff Kaiser tied for eighth place individually at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
The Badgers concluded the tournament with a 72-hole score of 1,201, four shots behind seventh-place Penn State.
Jones (Rewey, Wis.) moved up two spots with a team-best 77 in the final round. The junior finished the tournament at 9-over 293 for his best career finish at the Big Ten Championships. At last year's conference tournament, Jones tied for 21st place. The eighth-place finish was Jones' seventh top-15 finish in 12 tournaments this season.
Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.) joined Jones at 9-over 293 thanks to a 79 on Sunday. A sophomore, Kaiser led the team or shared the team lead at four of seven tournaments this spring.
Freshman Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.) finished the weekend with an 82. Obermueller closed out the tournament at 308 in a tie for 39th place, the best finish by a UW freshman since Jones finished 39th at the 2004 Big Ten Championships.
Junior Adam Steinhofer (Madison, Wis.) finished tied for 44th place at 310 following an 80 on Sunday. Freshman Pat Duffy (Appleton, Wis.) ended the weekend 10 shots behind Steinhofer in 54th place.
Host-school Northwestern used a 301 on Sunday to jump up from third place and claim the Big Ten title, its eighth championship and first since 2001. Northwestern's Chris Wilson shot a 2-under 69 on Sunday to pass Michigan State 's Ryan Brehm and win the individual championship at 4-under 280.
