August 05, 2006 | Men's Swimming & Diving
The 200-meter backstroke was a big event for the University of Wisconsin swimming and diving team, as one current and two former Badgers qualified for the final round on the fifth and final day of the ConocoPhillips National Championships at William Woollett Aquatics Center.
Ex-UW athletes Tim Liebhold (2:02.89) and Adam Mania (2:04.09) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the B-Final, while sophomore-to-be Mike Hopkins came in third (2:03.45) in the C-Final.
Classmate Eric Johnson also competed in a C-Final, taking seventh in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:21.31. Rounding out the UW finalists was former Badger Carly Piper, whose time of 56.73 in the 100-meter freestyle C-Final put her in fourth.
Wisconsin opens its 2006-07 season with a home meet vs. UW-Green Bay on Oct. 6 at the Natatorium.
