
Badgers Currently in Second Place at Season-Opening Tournament

It was a record-setting day for the Wisconsin men's golf team as they are currently in second place after two rounds at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate at Pinehurst Golf Course in Pinehurst, N.C..
The Badgers recorded a 282-280=562 on Monday, just two strokes behind the leader, Wichita State. The team's two-round total of 562 set a 36-hole school record. The old record of 563 was set at the 1994 Big Ten Championships.
Sophmore transfer Dan Woltman made an immediate impact in his first match as a Badger. The Beaver Dam, Wis., native shot a two-under par 70 in the first round and followed that up with a 69 in the second round. Woltman is currently tied for fourth place with a 139.
Junior Jeff Kaiser (Onalska, Wis.) is currently tied for eight place as he shot two consecutive rounds of 70. Fellow junior Garrett Jones (Rewey, Wis.) shot a tournament first-round best 66. He then shot a 75 in the second round to finish tied for 11th with a 141.
Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.) and Madison, Wis., native Adam Steinhofer rounded out the scoring for UW. Obermueller shot a one-under par 71 in the second round to finish the day with a 147 and a tie for 39th place. Steinhofer shot a two-under par 70 in the second round as well and is currently tied for 45th.
Wofford's Neil O'Briain is in the individual lead with a 132. Wichita State's Ryan Spears had a noteable day as he had a 75 in the first round, but then shot a tournament record 63 in the afternoon. The final round of the tournament gets underway tomorrow at 8:45 a.m.
